More on the Master classes in general

  • Each module will be on a topic which you have registered your interest in and will last roughly between 3 and 6 lessons

  • The classes will be made up of a minimum of 3 students and a maximum of 10 students.

  • Lessons will involve lots of hands on practice and interactivity with me, the tutor. You will get to ask many questions and I will be ensuring everyone understands the topic and we all have a strong foundational understanding of the key points of each lesson.

  • The lessons will be logically organised and sequenced to take you through the module systematically so as you can see everything starting to make sense.

  • Lessons will include practice questions and example exam questions.

  • You will have access to an interactive whiteboard during and outside of lessons. We will all work on this whiteboard together during the lessons.

  • You will have access to a very extensive bank of resources to aid your understanding.

  • I shall make multiple short videos during the lessons and these will be easily accessible to you after each lesson. You can guide me on what to include in these videos if you like.

I’ve signed up. What now?

Ok great! You’ve done all you need to do now and soon you will hopefully hear back from me with a master class I’ve put together which I think you might be interested in. It will be tailored to what you have said you would like to cover. The invitation will include a rough plan for the course, including how many lessons and what we plan to cover during those lessons. It will also state the suggested lesson times based on the availability stated in the registration forms.

Once the invoice has been paid by all attendees, the course will be confirmed and I shall send out all of the necessary links in time for the first lesson.

The price of the modules will be calculated at £10 per student per lesson. If module is 4 lessons long, each student will be invoiced for £40.

Are these classes right for me?

Some people shy away from group lessons, but let me assure you that teaching groups is where most of experience lies. I taught classes of students for more than 15 years before tutoring and there are some things which work better in groups than one to one.

  • Of course there is the benefit of cost. These lessons are a lot cheaper than one to one tuition with me and might be a great option for many people.

  • What type of learner are you? Many students I teach one to one would probably benefit just as much from these types of lessons as they are very much audible learners and don’t need quite so much back and forth. You will still get plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get feedback in Masterclasses, but there would obviously be more of that in one on one lessons.

  • These are a short commitment. If you want help on a couple of specific topics, but are unsure about committing to a regular slot of tuition, this could be just the thing

  • It’s good to work with others sometimes. Seeing others struggle with the same things you are struggling with helps you to see you are not alone and you can feel part of a group all trying to work towards the same goal.

Free Master classes

One of the main reasons of running these Master Classes was to make tuition accessible to more people. Many people cannot afford the quality one on one tuition I offer and so by offering these Master Classes, I am able to help more people more easily. Some people may not be able to afford the cost of these Master Classes either, which is why I’m offering completely free lessons once a month. Of course this is another great way to try out the Master Classes to see if they are for you.

These classes will run every 1st Thursday of the month at 10am UK time. Complete this form to register your interest.

There will also be some free Master Classes run this coming half term break, 23rd October to 27th October. The dates of which depend on demand, so fill in the form as soon as you can to have a say in what dates and what topics!

We will need enough people to run these Master Classes, so if you know anyone else who might be interested, tell them about the classes. To make it easier to spread the word, I have also produced a QR ode which sends you to my Facebook advert about these Master Classes.

This coming Christmas holidays I shall be running two more free Master classes. Click on the image below to sign up and have a say in what topics I shall cover and what times you can make. Share this with friends to help the classes fill up! The more attendees, the more free classes! This link can also be shared using the QR code in the image. Clicking the image will take you to a form to complete so as I can invite you to the class.

A note about camera and privacy

Some attending students may feel uncomfortable using their camera during the lesson, which is totally fine. If anyone would like to turn their camera off, that is fine with me. However, it is easier for me to see who is understanding the topic, who is getting bored, who is stuck and so on via body language. We communicate mostly through body language automatically, and in a lesson with multiple students, body language is more important because you will have less opportunity to ask the questions verbally (although you can type a question via group chat privately or to the group at any time).

I will be recording sections of the lesson, but this will not be using different software to the one we will use for the call and shall only be recording me and my screen, so the videos produced will not contain any student who attended the class.

I would also suggest you sign into the call using only your first name or your initials. Whatever you sign in as is what I shall call you in the lesson. No full names please. I would also suggest you sign into the whiteboard using the same name because I shall be able to see your cursors on the whiteboard and each cursor will have a name next to it. If you’d like to sign up now and familiarise yourself with the whiteboard software, you can click on this link. The app is called Miro and Signing up is free. Many of my students use it for their own note taking as they find it a very helpful way of making notes and I agree. On my Youtube channel I have made a few videos introducing the app, but the company have plenty more of their own.
